Baseball Program Overview

The PYSBA provides children in Princeton, MN the opportunity to play competitive baseball to boys ages 5-14.

 

In-House Program

MINORS:

  • An opportunity for boys 5-7yrs old (currently in prek-1st grade) to be introduced to the fundamentals of baseball.
  • This is a coach over hand pitch league where each player on the team bats every inning.
  • Practices & games begin in May and are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Princeton Middle School. Teams will also travel to Zimmerman for games.
  • Season ends with a tournament in mid-July.
  • Full Major League Baseball themed uniforms are provided with the registration fee.

Parent "umpires" are needed for each game. Fundamentals of baseball, teamwork, and good sportsmanship are the focus in this league.

MAJORS:

  • An opportunity for boys who are 8 & 9 years old  (currently in 2nd and 3rd grade) to continue learning baseball fundamentals (9-year-olds who either do not make the 9U Traveling League via tryouts, or who choose not to tryout for the 9U Traveling League). 
  • Players pitch to each other in this league for the entire season.
  • Majors play/practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning in May at Princeton Middle School. Teams will also travel to Zimmerman.
  • Majors season ends with a tournament in mid-July.
  • The games take place in BOTH Princeton and Zimmerman.
  • Full Major League Baseball themed uniforms are provided with the registration fee.

Fundamentals of baseball, teamwork, and good sportsmanship are the focus in this league.

 

 Travel Baseball Leagues 9U-14U

  • At this level, boys who are 9 - 14 years old play competitive baseball in one of two leagues.  Teams will have several opportunities to play in tournaments as well as their scheduled league games.
  • Practices start Mid to Late April and Games Begin in May.
  • PYSBA fields Gopher State Baseball Leagues.  Team placement is based on tryout results in the Fall.
  • 9U Players who tryout but do not make the 9U travel team will be placed on an In-House Majors team.

 

Travel Baseball Tryouts

In the event there are enough participants at an age level to field more than one team, tryouts will be held to place players in teams of similar ability.  See the PYSBA Policy Handbook for further explanation of this process. 

2026 season tryouts will be held on August 17, 2025 at Solheim Veterans Field (Green fence at Mark Park) 

  • 13U and 14U: 12:00-2:00pm
  • 11U and 12U 2:00-4:00pm
  • 9U and 10U 4:00-6:00pm

This table shows the birthdate ranges for each age level in baseball.  Note that the PYSBA also allows players to play with their grade if they are young for their grade.
